Accepting Applications for Part-Time Library Clerk Position

Redgranite Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time library clerk position.  Approximately 10 hrs. per week.  Must be available two Saturdays per month from 9 a.m. to noon and every Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, possess basic computer skills, and enjoy working with the public.  Applications are available at library (also on this website--click on link to applications in first sentence) and should be submitted to:  Redgranite Public Library, 135 W. JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:  Library Clerk (approximated 10 hrs./wk.)

WAGE:  Hourly rate based upon experience, no benefits

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Library Assistant performs essential service desk functions and other assigned activities including:

Discharge library materials returned by patrons
Check out library materials to patrons
Process interlibrary loan requests
Process incoming materials from system delivery van
Perform clerical functions as assigned
Shelving of returned library materials
Shelf-reading of collection to maintain order in the collection
Collect patron fines; assesses fines for damaged materials
Issue new and replacement library cards; registers new patrons, update patron records
Assist patrons in locating materials
Answer reference questions, records and refers questions which need further work by librarian
Assist patrons in the use of patron access computers
Place hold requests on materials owned by other libraries in the system for patrons
Assist the director with planning and delivery of children’s, young adult or adult programming including craft activities and other storytelling materials
Assist with summer reading program; planning and conducting one event per summer
Operate copy machine/fax for patrons
Catalog library materials for shelving, applying identifying information, and protective covers
Repair library materials
Open and close the library including turning equipment on/off, unlocking/locking doors, turning alarm on/off
Answer phone in a professional manner

Education and/or Skill Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public
Basic clerical and computer skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to work effectively in cooperation with fellow employees as a member of the staff team
Ability to work in and maintain an environment that deals with sensitive and confidential information

Hours

Approximately 10 per week including:
Every Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Rotating Saturdays (2 per month) 8:45 a.m.-noon
